I am new to Safari. Am trying to view a simple html file created with TextEdit or Word on my Mac. I am sure the file is saved with the html extension. When I open it in Safari, I just see my code. Please help!

Make sure your plain text formatting is correct. It should be Unicode (UTF-8). Text Edit > Preferences, Open and Save tab. HTML saving options. You may want to change your plain text file encoding as well, just in case you accidentally save without the html extention.

I also have box selected to ignore rich text commands in HTML files. Also, under the New Document tab, I would choose "Plain Text" as the format for new documents.

P.S. - It's tempting to click the "Restore All Defaults" button at the bottom, like it's the OK button. Just close the window and your changes are saved.

stay away from word. it will mangle your file.

pick up textwrangler the freebie from the folks who wrote BBedit.

make a simple html. name it correctly. right click on the file and open with safari.

make sure you are showing the real extensions (don't hide them in finder)

copy and paste it in notepad, so and "save as" , choose " all files " for extension and then put the " file.html " and that shoud do it.
