The musician is the tuning fork, the music finds it's way to the instrument through their body.

Interesting question!. As long as musician enjoys the music he/she playing then it is a case of music playing the musician. It is common practice that any work that human being performs as long as it is enjoyable then human being performs the best. Morevover in a performing arts like music it is the involvement of body and soul. So, the musicians are borned and not created.

Cool..
Looking at the first description leads to the second.
Think about this in reverse. If you have a musician playing music. You can place the musician at the top of the list. Followed by music, where did the rhythm come from? He heard it, or felt it. If we go back to the earliest forms of music, we likely imitated sounds we felt or heard. The music we heard around us, nature for example, song birds etc possibly incited us to create music.
Since sound predates man and earths living, breathing thinking life, I would conclude that music as an aural influence plays the musician who enters into a cycle of creating music etc.

great one dreamer. I've only ever played the organ as a kid so I'm no musician, but music is an integral part of my life.
I sense in one sense the musician is playing the music, otherwise it couldn't be played....but it seems there comes a moment when the music just flows through and the music finds it's material form in which to express itself and it actually comes alive n becomes an entity unto itself.
Just hearing certain pieces of music.....or hearing an orchestra.....you close your eyes and you feel that
there is no one playing anything......it's just pure sound n beautiful movement that moves you to new heights.......
I believe it's both. Music: Notes n beauty n inspiration waiting to find it's release......
Musician: the vessel to bring it out....
All one.
hmmm......now your question just gave me an idea for a question. Forgive me if it sounds similar. Check it out on my account.

In a performance, the music and the musician become one.

Hmmmmm, this question requires more thought than I can give this night, but I believe that often times, GOOD music does indeed play the musician, and not the other way around.
A very thought-provoking question, and one that I shall try to answer more in depth later...

Both. Music is mathematics in motion. I think it is the limbic system that responds to music primally, meaning that we have less control over our reaction to it, even for musicians. Music is a synergy between creator and created, because the musician is part of the instrument.

practically a musician plays music
but in reality they play with each other. a real musician plays with the music just like a child does with his/her friends.
i am no musician but music is part of my life and i can say that music is living, like us, though in a different form... :)

if one didn't exist the other wouldn't either. It depends how you look at it. It has to balance at one point.
