sanctum sanctorum

The Latin phrase sanctum sanctorum means 'holy of holies'.

The phrase was originally applied in a religious context.

In Hinduism, it refers to the area inside a temple complex where the main deity is installed. This area would be a separate building by itself, inside the complex.

The term is also used to specify the innermost shrine of a Jewish temple, or more specifically, the innermost shrine of the Temple of Solomon, also known as the holiest of holies.

Sanctum sanctorum is now also used figuratively to mean any reserved, private, or much-valued place.

It's where they kept the Ark of the Covenant until it got stolen a few times and now the Ark's in a warehouse somewhere.

Only the top priest gets to go in the Holy of Holies, so if you found an active one, you'd have to know how to get in to get in. If it were inactive, then there wouldn't be any point to going in it--there wouldn't be anything holy about it.

No one knows what the Inner sanctum is all about, because no one has ever been there. I think it is just a secret place.
