No pro athlete or so-called movie star is worth anywhere near what they're paid. There are others (teachers, researchers trying to find disease cures, etc.) who contribute so much more to our planet, yet they will never be paid anywhere near what they're worth. I wonder what athletes and movie stars would do if suddenly their employers said NO, we're not paying you multi-millions of dollars. Top actors get $20 million a movie. Would a scientist who discovers a cure for cancer get that much. Hardly! Our values as a society are completely turned upside down.

no they aren't worth it at all. They are paid more money for 1 event/movie than most of us would ever see in 10 lifetimes. With so many people in the US that are homeless, so many that are uninsured, poor , etc its ridiculous that celebrities buy 20 million dollar homes, spend hundreds of thousands on parties..

People are paid relative to the revenue they generate. It's just the way of our capitalistic society.

For evidence, just look at the fact that Paramount Pictures has cut its ties with Tom Cruise's production company. With his outrageous salary and profit participation demands, he was no longer making money for Paramount. So they cut him free.

They make tons of money because people pay for them as forms of entertainment, it's actually quite shallow. And they aren't worth it I can think of lots of people who deserve that money much more then celebs and athletes though but that's what happens when ur an entertainer. At least celebs r hott and they give us something to watch in our boring everyday lives!!

They provide entertainment to the public so really it's society that's making them what they are and providing them with that kind of $$$.
