I am an HR director, and this is one of these questions that I must answer. Affirmative action levels the playing field. I have never seen a race quota. Any question involving race is optional. Most people do not even answer it. Affirmative action just allows me to hire the most qualified individual regardless of race. If you come into my office and have a BA and the next applicant has a Masters. I WILL hire the one that has the Masters degree. In this day and time with the economy as it is, hiring unqualified persons is unheard of. You have to be over qualified to recieve a position. There is too many qualified people to hire someone unqualified. What person would risk thier career or business to do that? Also affirmative action is not only for blacks, but women, and other minorities. I think that you just found a website for someone that is looking for trouble, unfortunately the web is full of that. EEOC also says that I cannot hire someone on the sole basis of color, religion, sexual orientation etc. To put it in a nutshell, Affirmative action simply allows someone to hire on the basis of qualifications and not on the basis of the color of thier skin. If someone does not get the job, then that means that they probally did not stand out. Or that HR person did not feel that they were a fit for the company. If you have a Ph.D and 20 years of experience, you can still blow it in a interview. In addition to that, if that were true then there would be more lawsuits than you could shake a stick at. Do not let these websites snow you. The only thing that I would say about these so called race quotas is this. If you have a company of 2000 and all 2000 are white males, your hiring practices should come under scrutiny. Because there would be something definately wrong there. You may be saying that I got my position because of Affirmative Action. No, I got it because I had the PHR, Masters Degree, four years in private sector, fluent in Spanish and French. No it leveled the playing field for me, and that is it, the rest came from blood, sweat, and tears.

It's really sad that even in this day and age a person cannot debate issues in regards to race without being called a racist by someone (even if the whole spoiled question sounded a bit closed-minded...give him the benefit of the doubt; maybe it was simply miss-worded).
The important thing to remember when approaching matters like this is to take a step back from all the political correctness and look at it not as blacks and whites but how the culture and the generalized situation of most black people (in your area or one you at least are well informed about) affects a person's future. After all, this idea was formed with the intention to make the world fairer, not the other way around.
Now please understand that I'm not saying that I agree nor disagree with the issue. I just get very frustrated with how quickly people jump to calling others racists. Everyone is so overly concerned with NOT being racist that they unintentionally pay race more attention than they should and thus stereotype people (not just black or white people but people like me who aren’t afraid to talk openly about racial & cultural issues).
Anyway, I can see both sides of the whole affirmative action debate dispute because both have a lot of good points. This means that while in some instances I agree with the pro side, other times I agree with the con side; it all depends on the context of the situation. Remember that there is never a way to fairly generalize any research findings from a small group to the entire population.
Sorry that I didn’t debate much on the topic at hand but I felt that someone needed to defend uncensored debate in regards to touchy subjects that most people live in fear of mentioning lest they face the same quick judgment this user was subjected to.

No, black people are far from spoiled and affirmative action isn't all it cracked up to be.
It's a non issue. Don't worry about it. The said "race quota " is so small that in the grand scheme of things it hardly ever makes a difference.
However because there are not many of these affirmative action spots, Blacks that fill them are often more over qualified than under qualified. Go figure.

Women benefit from affirmative action also. It is really sickening to think that white men think they are so great and superior. If it was not for affirmative action, they would still be hiring just white men. There are a lot of over-qualified white men that, based on common sense, could not find their way out of a paper bag.

can't believe a black guy didn't come in here and give the whole enslaved and oppressed speech. Anyways, having the background they do, I guess they should at least deserve affirmative action considering you white men were responsible for them being uneducated/oppressed in the first place.
Don't get me wrong though, I understand your point of view, it's a plain view from the point of efficiency. You wouldn't want to hire a stupid/incompetent person just because of this law.

I would not say they are spoiled, but companies do worry that if they dont hire a colored person, they will get sued for racism, and the colored person believes if they are not hired it is due to racism, how can a company win? or the colored person?
