It is pretty pointless, know what you mean....after all, if the bill is being covered by the coupon, doesnt' that mean the price on the item is zero anyway?
It's about the same way, using coupons with food stamps, because if you use a coupon to lower the price of an item, they'll still charge you the tax on the item....so you have to pay the regular price, and lose out on a good coupon.

Yeah, I think the free item coupon should cover the tax as well. I'm not sure what the laws are regarding this, but if it is something they CAN do, I think they should.
