..is it true that, if a tornado is coming, windows should be left open?!

I read somewhere, a gazillion years ago, that you should leave windows open if there's a tornado on the way. Something to do w/ equalizing the barometric pressure.
I'm NOT "dumb" (you mean person)....just asked a simple question.
I'm on my laptop, in the basement...we've had two tornadoes already. If my son wakes up, I just want him to see Mommy, typing!! LOL
But I'm a little scared...

Wow. I will never cease to be amazed by how rotten some people can be.
But I'll always rejoice at how fantastic the majority of people are!!

Has someone told you to open your windows during a tornado? Or has someone told you that you don't have to worry about tornadoes because the place where you live is protected? These are two of the most common myths about tornadoes. Neither of them are true.

Scientists once thought that the low pressure in a tornado caused the normal air pressure in houses to explode out. It turned out that the strong winds from the tornado destroyed the houses, not the pressure change. In fact, opening the windows can cause even more damage.

Some people thought that tornadoes couldn't cross mountains or rivers. This is true for small tornadoes, but the strong ones can. And they're the ones that cause the most destruction.

I've never heard this. There was just a tornado warning in my region tonight and they gave a BUNCH of suggestions...never mentioned opening all of your windows. I suppose the theory is that the tornado could throw some kind of debris into your window and cause shattered glass to fly inside...however, if you keep them shut, you can keep out all kinds of rain water and small debris that wouldn't have been able to break the window.

It's true that if a tornado is coming, it wouldn't matter TOO much either way. Seek shelter, and pray your house isn't damaged.

If a tornado is coming then it wouldn't matter because it would destroy anything it is near

I hear that the best thing to do is take cover and forget about saving the house. Houses can be replaced, people cannot.

We always did, but it won't really matter, so, just stay away from them.
