You are least likely to get pregnant when you are starting your period. Also, right before your period, IF you are regular.

well the best date to prevent pregnancy is directly after the period. the best time to get pregnent is in the middle of the cycle. at the end of the cycle you can get pregnent too.
however to be able to know that you are at the ovulation date you can do that by checking out your pelvic temperature. you might find it strange but this is the best clinical test done other than echos and other stuff... you can do this by taknig your temperature from your vagina directly after the end of the period and keep doing so daily untill you can find a change in the temperature... this indicate that you are on ovulation time... this increased temp might last for 2 days max . and them the temp go back to the normal one... you are now in the postovulatory period (or luteinizing phase)

You are least likely to get pregnant from after your periods to half way through your cycle. Half way through the cycle is when ovulation takes place. The day the uterine wall comes down is day 1.
