It depends on where you want to go when you get here.

In (our) summer, the majority of the mainland south of Cairns is very hot and dry, especially towards the centre of the country where temps. regularly get over 45°c (over 100F). North of Cairns it is very hot and humid, and does get quite heavy storms as it's the wet season. If you dont like the heat, Tasmania is still fairly mild at this time.

Towards the end of our summer (March) it begins to cool off in around the place, but the weather is still quite good for swimming etc. It's often quite dry below Cairns as well. Note that around this time, cyclones do hit the northern coasts north of Cairns, so travel there at that time is not recommended due to roads being washed out etc.

Winter is the best time to see northern Australia. It's tropical climate is mainly dry at this time of year, and temperatures dont get so hot, but remain high enough for outdoor activities. South of Cairns along the coast, southerly winds often bring very cold conditions and rain, and while you'll still get quite a few fine days per month, it's not uncommon for a rain depression to form on the coast and rain non-stop for 2 weeks. Sydney remains from mild to cool temperatures, but Melbourne & Tasmania and other southern towns (Adelaide, Perth Canberra) do get very cold. The central tablelands & deserts remain mild during the day at this time, but get very cold at night.

I would say the best time of year to visit the subtropical parts of Australia would be now (August - October) the weather is warming up, and the days are getting longer. The weather is mainly dry (although it does get windy in September), and warm enough for t-shirts in the day (21-25°c) before getting cool enough in the evening and early morning to require jumpers etc. (12 - 17°c)

it depends what you want to see. I live in the Queensland state and it can get really hot here in Summer. I think probable around April you will get cooler weather but not cold. IF you are visiting the north part of Australia. March for the south part of Australia

It really depends on the place you are visiting. It is better to visit the Northern part of Australia in winter and the southern parts in summer (and I'm talking Australian seasons)

It really depends where you are from and what your weather is like. It can get very hot here in summers, so if you are from a colder climate, you'd be best coming in our winter (June-August). The weather here now (Brisbane) is wonderful. The days are warm and sunny, but the nights and mornings still a bit chilly. I think the best time of year is March-April, and September-October
