Schools across the country are being careful with this subject. Several school systems have lost court cases over a girl's right to keep herself sanitary. The courts will side with the student just about 99% of the time. You need to talk to someone that will assure your rights are being honored. Usually a femals staff member of the school will be OK.

When I was in middle school and high school, I got a little pouch that looked like a pencil case, and I kept my pads or tampons in there, and took it with me when I went to the bathroom, so it didn't look so obvious that I was having my period. I would also sometimes just slip the pad under my shirt a little, if I could get away with no one noticing while I was at my desk, then go to the bathroom a few minutes later and take it out to change it.

Once you're a little bit older, it becomes so much more normal, and you won't feel embarassed about bringing your purse along with your pads or tampons in it, because you'll know all the other girls have their periods too, and the boys have no idea what's going on so you don't have to be worried about them thinking anything of it.

If you do not use a purse, get one and carry it with you at all times. This way, it will not be so strange when you take it to the bathroom with you. Or, if your school has the machines where you can buy pads/tampons for a quarter, keep change in your pockets during your period. To ease your concern about starting and having an accident, keep track of when you stop your last period that way you have an estimate of when you will start your next.

You may try wearing shorts that do have at least one pocket and putting a tampoon in the pocket. They have alot of them that are so small that they are smaller than a little cell phone. Check with your school nurse regarding any suggestions and don't be embarrassed, it is a natural bodily function for a woman. To help you not worry so much about leaking, wear a little panty liner in your panties and the tampoon. Remember, you are not the only one and I remember when I was in school and the last thing you wanted was for someone to know, but, it does get easier as you get older I promise. Hang in there it is just part of growing up. PS. Is there a mom or friend yu can ask?

You will get used to having your period and you will learn what to do over time. But today they make pads thin enough to fit in your back pocket. Most schools do allow you to carry a purse as long as there is nothing metal in it. Look around and check out what kind of purses the other girls carry and then take it from there. Most women do hate having periods as they are a major inconvenience but we learn to cope with them. We have no choice because the average woman has her period for at least 35 to 40 years. Sorry for the bad news.

If you change classes, try to change it between classes if you can. That's how I always did it. It was so much easier than trying to sneak out of class. However, if you can't, take a purse with you. Unless your school has a lot of problems, I don't think they would stop you from carrying a purse. If they do, I've found little tiny pouch like things (kinda like a tiny purse with no strap) that can fit a few tampons inside them so you can just take that with you. Most likely no one will even notice. A few girls might notice but they're probably dealing with it too (or will be soon) so it doesn't really matter.

If you have any understanding female teachers or School Leader type people you could talk with them and see if you could go out during their class when no one is around and get your pad/tampon to change while the school yard and toilets are quiet. Maybe there is a toilet for more senior girls that you could use also. If its stressing you out lots, I would talk to a school counsellor to get some support and organised consideration.

I know you arn't using tampons yet but if you decide to, I've found them lots easier to 'conceal' and get in and out of bags etc.

When I was young I used a pad even with a tampon in so I didn't have to worry so much about leakage.

And don't worry, you will "get over it eventually".

when I was in that grade, I had an accident because my cycle was very irregular. It was handled very well and very discreet and no one knew. I had very good friends that would tell me if they seen anything. Here are some tips: Bring a change of clothes. Make sure you bring a long jacket that week that covers you in case of an accident, or ask to borrow a friends. If you start and don't have anything, use some TP until you can see the school nurse. Stuff a pad or tampon in your sock, and be sure to check every so often to make sure its still there. You'll get the fear eventually. If you change your stuff often, no one will ever know.

To avoid being surprised, I keep track of my periods on a calendar. I keep track of my cycle that way and I make sure I carry a pad or tampons with me a few days ahead, just in case I start early. Do you have a locker that you could stash some spare pads in, for emergencies?

As far as carrying them around and being discreet about it, I'm not sure what to tell you. I keep my tampons in a Mary Kay lipstick holder I have. It's the perfect size and if I take it out of my purse when others are around, it just looks like I'm carrying lipstick around. I guess that's a thought. Could you carry a small makeup bag with you; keep your pads in it?

YES you will get over it eventually. It is kind of embarrassing at first but then you get into a rhythm and everything works out. But just another quick tip for you if you like to use tampons. Instead of using pantyliners use pads as backups. Less chances of accidents. Secondly put extra pads and tampons in your school bag. But for emergencies you could put a small type of tampon in your bra. (like ob travel tampons) I know it sounds kinda weird walking around all day with a tampon in your bra but in the case of an emergency it will save embarrassment. Let me ease you a little by sharing a little story with you,The first time mine came on my mom made me buy my own pads. Well when I got to the register and pulled my little bag out from under my arm and threw it on the checkout counter looking all around making sure no one was watching. Well needless to say when I looked up it was my crush that was at the checkout!
And I think I am speaking for every other female out there when I say this but we all had at one point in time or another an accident. It is embarrassing as all hell but,on the bright side you get more used to it and it gets easier. Especially by high school cause by then even the late bloomers are dealing with it. I know this is a big issue for you, but try to relax cause stress can make you bleed heavier. Well best of luck to you.

You carry in your purse a change of underpants and at least one or more sanitary pads or learn to use tampons. Keep it in your locker if you dont want it in your purse. Depending on the flow, you may need to change the pad more than once during school. At least change during your lunch period.

IF you have an accident, go to the nurses office or that of the counselor or principal. They will be very understanding. I know because in 7th grade I had NO choice.
