If you think you are....You are. Decide whether it is affecting things that you could do better & stop doing what hurts you doing that. Use that as your gauge. To totally stop for good is something some people here will probably tell you, but I couldn't really ever see that. YOu just need to learn when& how to drink.
My Rules to follow in order:
1) Always eat first, no matter what. Make yourself wait to drink until you have had dinner or at least a snack
2) This is super hard....drink a glass of water b/t every two drinks (beers). If you can't do this, Down a huge glass before bed.
3) eat something not huge before bed. Someone told me to eat a peice of burnt toast because if someone O.D.s on alcohol in the hospital they give them a dose of some type of Charcoal type substance to soak up the alcohol, I don't know if the toast works the same way, but I tried it a couple of times & it really worked.
4) Try to count your drinks. This kind of keeps track of it. Or if you are at home put a certain amount in an area of the fridge you know you can handle & try to stick to that. This will help you pace yourself. Pretend this all you can have & savior it.
Someone on here will probably say i'm whacked & your an alcoholic & go to AA meetings......but It's not for me right now.

You sure are exhibiting some of the "signs". Drinking alone; risking your life, health and / or job.
Those are all things a counselor would check "yes" to in giving you an assessment.
You really should ask for an assessment by a trained counselor and if needed, get the help you need.
Alcoholism isn't something to leave untreated -- both for your benefit along with anyone you routinely interact with. Many folks will get hurt by the disease.

went to a party,
And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom,
so I had a sprite instead.
I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
that I didn't drink and drive,
though some friends said I should.
I made a healthy choice,
And your advice to me was right.
The party finally ended,
and the kids drove out of sight.
I got int o my car,
Sure to get home in one piece.
I never knew what was coming, Mom,
something I expected least.
Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
the kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mom, his voice seems far away.
My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
this girl is going to die.
I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high.
Because he chose to drink and drive,
now I would have to die.
So why do people do it, Mom
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
like a hundred stabbing knives.
Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom
Tell daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven,
put " Mommy's Girl" on my grave.
Someone should have taught him,
That it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive.
My breath is getting shorter,
Mom I'm getting really scaredThese are my final moments,
and I'm so unprepared.
I wish that you could hold me Mom,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say, "I love you, Mom!"
So I love you and good-bye

You are right . You are a alcoholic. You are also dangerous You said you were drunk and driving. That is a no no.If you want to get hammered & drive that is your chose but you have no right to put me at risk. In most drunk driving accidents it is the innocent ones who get hurt. I know because I was with someone who drank & drove. I was passed out in the back seat when he hit the tree. He died but I just got minor bruses because I was so drunk I just got tossed around in the back.I do not drink & drive or ride with anyone who is drinking. I am alive & want to stay that way

I don't know if you are or not, but driving drunk means you at least have a drinking problem.
The penalties for drinking and driving are severe, , you REALLY don't want to go through it.
Many people overdo , and 80% (according to a Harvard study, Harvard Mental Health Letter, Volume 12, Number 4, October 1995) who quit, do so on their own.
Some practical tips:

The fact that you are asking this question makes me believe that you are. There is no certain drinking pattern for an alcoholic; people used to believe that it always involved daily drinking, but there are benge drinkers who are alcoholics. You need to start going to AA meetings and may even need a detox program.

It is the beginning of becoming one.It may be a way of covering something else up in your life.I also wanted to caution you about vodka, it is a harsh drink.I live with an vodka alcoholic. he is very extreme in his moods about life, I think he is covering up depression, but i cant tell him anything.I would probably seeks some professional help. is your body craving it or just doing it to be doing it.

it seems like it is becomming a problem especially if you drove while being intoxicated. you should really be careful because you could hurt someone or yourself and you seem like the kind of person who would feel really guilty about that if it ever happend. just think about how you act and what can come from your actions.
