The first typewriters keys were in alphabetical order, but they got complaints that the keys got stuck if they typed too fast, so they randomized the letters in order to slow people down. It's worked ever since.

it is because when typewriters came out people could type so fast it would always jame them so the companies agreed to mix up the letters to sort of slow ppl down

It was carried over from type writers which would get jammed if ppl typed to quickly so they rearanged them to slow typists down. Also the most commonly used letters are the easiest to type.

the y are arranged by how much they are used....
as well as being dispersed properly.
( hope tat makes sense)
For me I just type dyslexic anyway, with a few fingers and thumbs.
