They ARE creepy looking, but then, we're probably pretty creepy looking to them, ya know?

They are considered neutral, because they do cause some foliage loss, but they eat pests too. All in all the recommendation is to tolerate them.

They eat rotting crap, and are good at composting. They also like certain fruits, especially strawberries, but other then that, they're harmless. Even those big scary pinchers can't really close with any force.

Creepy bugs, yes, but they don't do anything bad. Pill bugs compete with them for food, so you might collect them, and spread the love a little.

What do earwigs do?!? They lay in wait to creep you out. I think they are harmless, but I still try to not touch them. (Again, the creep factor.)

Here are a couple links if you want to learn about them and see creepy earwig pictures:

Earwigs eat my plants. They eat rose petals and other soft leaves, and make lots of tiny holes on them. One time, I didn't see the bug inside the bunch of rose petals when I was deadheading, and when I grabbed it, the bug pinched me with its pincher, if you know what I mean. (I wasn't wearing gloves.) Earwigs love to hide inside the moist plant. If you want to catch some, place a wet bundled up news papers in the garden. They like to hide inside of it.

harmless.. they have a number of natural enemies so thier numbers stay down. they eat very small bugs but are mostly vegetarian and do damage to corn, roses and other plants, so there they are not beneficial. they used to be thought to be a treatment for otitus media(ear infection) by pulverizing many together and putting the mush into the ear canal.. yuck. you can collect them by putting a dampened newspaper under a shaded area, they will climb under it

Wait the bug or like mini-wigs for ears, because I know a lot about the second one.
