You can actually put out a fire with diesel, try it; it is safe to attempt. What you do is roll up a paper towel and pour a small cup of diesel. Ignite the paper towel then dip it into the diesel, the towel will be extinguished and the diesel will not catch. Diesel needs to be atomized, heated, and compressed in order to ignite.

diesel is combustible, not flammable. I work at a station that responds to mostly traffic accidents and the only diesel related fires that I have seen started in gasoline cars that have spread to the diesel vehicle. Diesel requires much more heat than gasoline to ignite. However, when it gets going, it burns very hot! Feel secure, cars only explode in Hollywood.
On a similar note, in my twenty years of rescuing people from crashed cars, full-size truck are the safest things on the road. I can count on one hand the number of people I have seen dead in pickups. Cars on the other hand, don't hold up nearly as well.

Diesel fuel is not very flammable at all if you threw a match on it I can almost guarantee that it will put it out. Diesel needs compression for ignition and or a very large spark (like from a glow plug)

If you throw a match into some diesel fuel it will probably
just go out..
Diesel fuel is not nearly as flammable as gasoline or alcohol...
Pour some diesel on some wood or paper or cardboard boxes
and it will light them just fine but it will not flare up as would
gasoline..
Diesel fuel is safe for lighting campfires & bonfires...
Gasoline is not safe..
