You must already have internet for this to work.
Step 1) Connect your internet from your modem to your router.
This is usually a wire that has two phone jacks on the end. Put one end in the internet modem (usually marked "out" or "internet out") and put the other end in the router jack marked "internet" or "in."
Step 2) Connect computer to router.
Wireless: If you have a laptop, skip to step 3. If you have a desktop, you must install a PCI card to use with your router. You can get these from http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1150490054358&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper . Follow the instructions on the package to install PCI card.
Wired:Take another wire with two phone jacks and plug one end iinto a port on the router marked "out" or "1" and the other end into the LAN port of the computer.
Step 3) Enable Internet.
Wired: Turn everything on (modem, computer, router, etc.) and start Internet Explorer. It should give you internet access.
Wireless: Go to Start>Connect To>Show All Connections. Right-click Wireless Network Connection and select View Wireless Networks. Select your network (usually "network" or "linksys")
Hope this helps!

Most wireless routers come with at least four 10/100 Ethernet ports. I would connect my workstation via copper first then wireless. If it's no possible to connect to your wireless this way I'd go for a Belkin Wireless G card. Not the best in quality, but for $30 you can't go wrong.
Belkin Wireless G Desktop Card
Part # F5D7000
Make sure you secure your wireless connection/default passwords to prevent others from accessing your network.

It has to have a wireless network card. If it's a desktop, you'll probably have to buy one. If it's a new laptop, you should be able to connect just fine if the router is already hooked up to the internet connection.

first make sure PC/laptop has a wireless card on it.
connect the modem to the router on Internet port.
connect the computer to the router on one of the Ethernet ports.
ROUTERS (99% routers) will have a web interface page...
log into it to do all these settings...
configure the router so that the computer goes on line wired first
(if its a cable service :
then configure the router to pick IP automatically.
If you have DSL :
configure router with PPPoE if you have user name and password from ISP
auto DHCP if there is no user name and password from ISP)
change the wireless network name and set encryption for your wireless network (from router web interface)
on computer, if its XP
go to network connections, there wireless network connections (if wireless card is working), right click wireless network connections and select view available wireless networks.
there it will show the name of your wireless network, select and connect to it with the encryption key you set on the router.
then make the computer wireless and you are wireless...

if you have wireless in the computer, just run the wireless setup wizard, or just turn it on if it has xp, it will find the wireless network, and ask you to connect.
If you do not have wireless in your new computer, you will have to get some sort of wireless adapter for it, depending what kind of computer you just got, install the software for the adapter, and xp will find it and you connect to it, and run the network setup wizard
