As other people have said, there are many check cashing companies. Its usually a couple bucks for the service and about 3 percent of the check also goes to the check cashing company. If the check has the name of a bank on it, check the address and go to that specific branch with some I.D. You could sometimes write "Pay to the order of......." and put your mother of fathers name. Then sign the back of the check but your mother of father will have to cash it through their account.

You should have a bank account - you are a grown up now!!
Walk into any bank and say, 'I want to open an account.' This is the first step to being smart about handling your money. Why the HELL would you pay 1-3% at a check casher when you could withdraw the money from your own bank for free??!!

Opening a bank account is EASY - I can't believe your parents are sending you off to college and they haven't even taught you how to handle money. Be smart!

normally they have to have one form of primary id, like drivers license, passport, state id...and some banks even need a 2nd form nowadays...like a student id, work id, something else with your name printed on it. You can goto the bank the check is drawn on and see what they need for you to cash it. Sometimes you can sign it over to your parents or someone you trust and they can cash it at thier bank against their acct. If you do that, be sure to write on the back " your signature (then under that write) Payable to the order of (then the person your signing it over to)" then they will sign under that and then cash it against his or her acct for you. I would only do this with someone i trust though. Hope this information helps.

Normally you can go direct to bank the check is written on. And if you have any form of ID they well cash for you.

They may call the school to confirm,
You can also take along someone who has know you for some time.
Good Luck
