New /used PC very slow download/Clean from parasites N Clutter?

I bought a PC used from store ,p4 Cicero Sis 661FX Motherboard ,160 MB HD ,I downloaded System Mechanic 6 and on installing it went to the prompt screen (Black ) with flashing :/c_ I tried entering everything I know with no avail shut down the hard way ,10 sec button off ,and now it downloads supper slow and surfs the same very slow ,aggrivatting

I would never trust the software on a used computer.
How do you know that it is not infected with a keylogger or another type of virus that could be used to steal your identity?

If it were me, I would reformat the hard drive, and reload all the software from scratch, ensuring the all OS security patches are applied, that anti-virus and anti-spyware software is applied, all before even starting to put anything else on it.

BTW, the average unprotected computer is compromised in as little as 10 minutes after being placed on the internet. Apply those updates fast.
