PHP is a very useful programming language used for developing web based software applications, specifically used to interact with databases.
As it is mainly used for web-based applications, it is almost always used with
- web-server software
- database software.
Therefore, all three can be obtained together:
Apache, MySQL and PHP
and this is known as PHP Triad. (Triad, as in "three").

PHPTriad was a bundle software of PHP, MySQL and Apache. It installed a server on your local computer for you to test and develop PHP / MySQL websites.
It's now been replaced by Apache2triad - which contains more software and up to date versions of PHP (v.5) MySQL (v.5) and Apache (v.2)

Is a useful installation that helps your browser to read PHP files :)
I have windows xp and the browser doesn't read index.php, whatsoever, installing phptriad, I got installed PHP, MySQL and Apache.
The creators don't share it anymore but you can find it around.
