Go to Great America. It's in Gurnee IL just a few minutes over the border.
They've got some great rides there and it would certainly fill up the day!

Come up to Green Bay! There's Bay Beach, with childrens rides for like .10 a ticket and each ride is only 1. A lot of the favs, the tilt-r-whirl, zipper, etc. It's also connected to the NEW Zoo, which is nothing like the Milwaukee Zoo but it is a nice, cheap thing to do. There's also Lambeau Field, it's atrium holds the Packer hall of fame, an awesome gift shop. Heck, just seeing Lambeau Field rocks. Good Luck!

How about Lake Geneva, located in southeastern Wisconsin, 10 miles north of the Illinois border. In addition to all the recreational activities on the water, it looks like there are several events coming up there, including a triathalon, classic car rally, and best of all, Oktoberfest! See link for details.

Not sure how far you want to travel, but here are some things I could think of:
1. The House on the Rock--by Spring Green
2. Go tour a bunch of waterfalls or caves (look at a map)
3. Go to the water park by Jellystone Park--Kalimari or something like that
4. Go to Madison--State Street, farmer's market, tour the capitol, museums, art galleries, plays, bands, poetry readings, etc.
