Looking for a profitable business in Costa Rica

Considering Costa Rica´s current economy, I would recommend going into services, and specifically for the Guanacaste area. There´s a lot of growth and development happening, and particularly a lot of hotels, condos, etc are being built. Guanacaste does not have a lot of infraestructure, so anything that these buildings, or building users, might need would be a good area to research.

There is a growing population of older Americans that are buying homes in Costa Rica after they retire. There is a great opportunity to start a business that provides a service or products to this market. You might ask if there is an item that they liked in the U.S. that they can't get in Costa Rica. You could either import it or find them a suitable replacement.

I would either do 2 things. First, I would import products that American expatriates would want to buy but could not get that brings them a feel of home.
Second, I was just in Costa Rica and there was not too much variety in what one could buy in terms of crafty souvenirs and handicraft. A lot was no different than what you could buy in the states. There is a huge need for handicraft souvenirs to sell to tourists and especially in the northern areas.
Hope this sparks some ideas.

Did you know that prostitution is legal in Costa Rica? I've always heard that that is a very profitable business. And theirs no reason not to do it, it's legal!
