I have to work saturday till late at night, as usual. I usually get to work on my own and ride home with a coworker because it is not safe to walk at night. This saturday there is major freeway intersection closing including the one have to go under, it will closed for a couple of days. I can get to work because it is day and I can take a bus and leave early to allow for the 2 mile detour but saturday night is another story. I have no one to ride home with as I am working with new people who are mostly young guys who are not going to want to give a middle age woman a ride home. I will have to take a taxi and with the detour it will probably cost me close to 20 dollars, not much more than I am making at work after taxes for the few hours I work. I can't call in because there is no one to cover for me, a fact as I can't even take a lunch break, and have no one to call. I have a guy friend and I told him about it but he just says, oh well I hope you get home ok, duh.

It will be about 11 pm at night and walking isint an option, as it is dangerous and besides I can't get across the intersectin and would have to walk 2 miles to get to the other side of the street as there are no underpassed along the way, and walking is never an option without I want to get shot.

these young guys are new hires and spend their work time acting silly and not doing their work. They are on the brink of getting fired like the one's they replaced. They don't even speak to me, so I doubt they would take me home. Saturday night is their party night. They are hip hop type guys, using profanity and stuff and I am a middle age white woman.

If you won't ask a co-worker to drive you at least part way--to a bus stop on the other side of that intersection--then you have not much choice but to take a cab.

How do you know that one of the young men that you work with won't give you a ride home? Have you asked any of them? All they can do is say no. Offer a little gas money when you ask. I would like to say that you "guy" friend isn't showing much friendship by not offering to come and get you and take you home. I hope this helps.

Offer one of your co-workers $10 for a ride. I don't want to be crude but if they are young guys maybe one has a thing for middle aged ladies. maybe you could work out an "arrangement"

Have you even asked these young guys if they'd consider taking you home? Offer them gas money...$5-$10..Itd be cheaper than taking a taxi if they do.

just ask someone. It sounds like you beat around the bush with your co-workers.....just come out and ask one of them.
