posi traction is also the same as limited slip ...so think about it if you only have one wheel spin and you slam on the gas one wheel will spin only and you'd go nowhere. But with posi or limited slip you'd grip that road with both wheels and once you do that you'd better hold on especially on a 97 camaro if its a V-8. I think every car should have posi i've had 2 camaros and doing burnouts with both wheels is so much more cooler than just one wheel lol. But i also raced both of them ocassionally at the track and that is a MUST to have posi. I just wish my 99 S-10 had it too cause that thing would get stuck if i went over a speed bump or pot hole or in wet roads it wouldnt have no traction if i turn just spin and the other wheel wouldnt do anything....as opposed to a posi/limited slip the other wheel will turn once the first wheels loses grip to ensure both wheels get grip to the pavement.

No, but good traction helps you win races. Also, if your back wheel comes off the ground for some reason, as in the ditch, the one wheel touching the ground will turn and the car will go, when without it, the back tire would not. That's posi-track.

Necessary? No. It's an option that allows you to have better traction under acceleration and in slippery roads. If you don't drive irresponsibly and have good tires then it's not necessary

If you expect to get a good, straight heavy acceleration, you need it.
