I'm currently 19, studying at a community college in Bedford, Ma in Business and wish to start own wrestling promotion. I am a huge fan and feel I have a general idea as far as what is needed to be put into it, I just need more advice, preferably expert.

Well, I'm trying to start any kind of wrestling promotion. Obviously I know at this point I won't be able to make one as big as WWE/TNA, but I would like to make something with a long run, similar to what ECW was back when it FIRST started out. Eventually, I would like it to grow and everything, but for now just something in general as a promotion with a solidifed roster.

I just answered a very similar question. You will need money, you will need to know something about marketing and business. You will need to contact and get advice from people who have been affiliated in the business in some way. I have wrestled for a very good indy promotion (Skandar Akbars TPWA)...there are some out there. Most, independent promotions aren't that good. Check around your area for reliable wrestling schools with reputable owners and trainers. Talk to people that have been there, learn from their experiences..listen to their advise and weigh it. Find your own niche. Learn from the promotions of yesterday and today...don't try to be a clone of the bigboys. Good luck.

Do what I did, just make up some contracts, stating how long they last and how much money they will get per match, my wrestlers get about $500per match. Advertise, I did, and at my first public show, I had about 75 to 100 people show up, charging $10 for admission. For my first show, I had about 10 people on my roster and all matches were anything goes, to win, your opponent was not able to get up and answer the count of ten. One of the matches I had, one of my wrestlers got lit on fire, and luckily, in their contracts, on the front page, it stated that any serious injuries including, but not limited too, burns, stab wounds, broken bones, or death, the BEFL, (my promotion, Backyard Extreme Fighting League) is not liable. Luckily, no one has died, but many times, we came close. More and more people came to my shows.I held matches once a month, and made about $5,000 , which went towards paying my wrestlers. To this day, I have not lost, only gained, wrestlers, so do what I did, and you should be successful to.

These other answers suck! It's not your fault that your trying to live your dream! My dream is to become a WWE superstar and I have alot of people say I'm chasing something I'll never get. I don't know how to create a successful wrestling promotion, but good luck to you!!!

Stop watching reality shows.

95% of the promotions often lose money when promoting wrestling matches. You have to have insurance and licensing and at 19 your not even old enough to do it.

Go back to your house where you live with your mom and dad, turn on the PS2 and keep dreaming. Unless you have a ton of money to lose it would be a waste of time and a stupid business venture.

Hope you have $$$$. That is just for a new ring. Used ones are not cheap either. Renting a hall, advertising, paying talent, good luck.
