I have an old picture of Escolta from the year 1890-1898 and I want to visit that place but where 's that place? san banda sa maynila? thnx in advance. ;)

let us start from LRT... go to LRT CARRIEDO STATION....
ask for STA. CRUZ CHURCH.... ask for ESCOLTA STREET... you will see SOUTH SUPERMARKET in the corner and a small WATCH SHOP on the other side... go straight ahead...
nearest landmarks: ESCOLTA TWIN TOWER,STA. CRUZ CHURCH and PNB OLD BUILDING
about the picture... im very sorry to tell you that the escolta undergo lots of changes now... you can no longer find the cinemas, and boutiques there... all you will see is a dull place (sorry)
and be careful when you go there... secure your money and phone... especially at night...

if you are coming from binondo in chinatown, escolta starts at the foot of Jones Bridge to the left by the Pasig River. (when you cross the bridge, there's the walled city intramuros). i think escolta used to be the commercial area of the city during the spanish era. but now it's all gone. there used to be 2 cinemas (lyric and capitol), department store (syvels) a hamburger joint (tropical hut) and the station for air-conditioned "love bus" --- those were the days....

Easy way is to take the LRT I (light railway Transit) . and simply go down at the LRT stop named Escolta Station.

if you know where Sta. Cruz church is, then you'll have no problem at all. ask the people around there and they'll point you to where Escolta is.
