With ONLY a high school diploma, you couldn't expect many places short of the services or factory industry to hire you. Your job choices would be limited to menial jobs, such as cashiers, tellers, factory worker, secretary, etc. However, if you have a particular skill or interest you could definitely take advantage of that. Certifications are big in the technology world. Experience is big in the work force, and many times it's hard for someone straight out of high school to have the right amount of experience for an employer to feel comfortable hiring you.
There are plenty of people who do quite well without a college degree, but it is difficult these days. If money is an issue, the government can provide you with grants and loans that should help pay for college, and of course there are always community colleges which are very affordable. Many of which offer night classes so that you may work full time during the day.

Think outside the box ! Since you are just starting out, you have the option of building a great resume (job history) Look at your interests then try approaching a few professional offices with accounting , payroll, bookkeeping, customer resourses, Dental, Veternarian etc. Whatever your interests. There are many professionals that will hire as an apprentice and often pay for further education.

Burger King is hiring. A high school diploma these days tells employers that you can basically read and write. Go to College, Lots of places to get student loans.
