That depends on which cultural norms you mean. There are many cultures, and with different norms. In the USA there is almost a collision of a lot of cultures with varying and sometimes conflicting norms. I could be very conformist to one particular culture and its norms, and at the same time that would be perceived as non-conformist to many of those around me. Like trying to eat kosher in a Mexican restaurant; or keeping my shoes on when I enter my Oriental friend's house; or using my formal vocabulary with my street friends.
I am past adolescence now, and don't have to prove my individuality. Now I struggle to try to conform to my own conscience, do God's will, and 'when in Rome do as the Romans do' (within reason).

I'm interested in subcultures that is not the norm, but sometimes, just sometimes, I don't want people questioning my beliefs or my dress and I make myself fit in. That doesn't mean my soul or my spirit is conforming just my outward appearance.

It doesn't matter what cultural norms you display as long as you don't have a sheep mentality.

Also, some things are norms that you can't help. The majority of people are heterosexual. You can't help that. I'm a Christian. I can't help that I agree with a philosophy that millions of others agree with.

It's only when you ignore or don't try to think outside the box that makes you a true conformist.

Non-conformist at least I would like to believe. I don't care if people like me becuase I do/wear/say whatever makes me happy. That doesn't mean making other people feel bad. I like to help people. I just don't understand why people feel they need to act/wear/say what someone else does just because they were made famous by the media. Everyone is fine the way they are don't be a poser.

You know, I hadn't thought about it until you asked. Living in Kansas, I can say that my bisexual orientation puts me out of the norm, as well as my liberal political leanings.

I also hunt, which puts me out of the norm for girls; I hate to shop and cook (but LOVE to crochet and sow) and I LOVE to play MMORPG's on the computer, which a lot of girls don't seem to do.

Socially, I am pro-abortion, pro gay-marriage, anti-Creationism/intelligent design, pro-giving the school what they need and fixing what we have instead of building new stuff, etc.

In Kansas, I guess I'm a fish out of water.
