Yes they are rude. I am a very shy girl in public and at the Paris airport they would bump into me. I never disrespected anyone until I was disrespected so that is bullshit. The French suck and they are slutty not sexy.

At a French airport... A group of American retired teachers recently went to France on a tour. Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, was part of the tour group.
At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry-on. "You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.
Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously . "Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."
The American said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it. "Impossible!" barked the officer. "Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in France."
The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained. "Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find any Frenchmen to show it to."

Maybe a busy airport is not the best place to discover a culture...
Do try to go through US customs with a non US-passport! New York airport being a lovely example.
Travelling around the world did show me: that the american were rude and loud, the germans obsessed with their beach towel etc...
Going on holiday in France is actually a lovely experience, so, no, I do not believe that they are really rude.

French rudeness toward the world has probably resulted from the wars it waged with the rest of it many years ago. The French were at open war with the US, England, Germany, Italy, and many other nations, present and non-existent at the moment, at one time or another. In addition, a blend of national pride, cultural mixing and socialist government has made France and the French people the way they are today.

When were they rude to you? Were they rude to you after you tried to ask for something in English in their country? If so, there ya go. If somebody came up to you and tried to ask for something in Spanish, expecting you to know it, wouldn't you be a little ticked?
Ok, that was a mini rant. Anyways, people tend to be rude when you are inconsiderate to them. The language thing, or badmouthing their country, may be the reason for their rudeness. You shouldn't stereotype an entire country, though.

Probably has something to do with their needing to be saved by the US in WW 1 and WW 2.

They are only rude to people who disrespect them and their culture. Anyone would be rude to those who ridicule them. I lived there for two years and was never once treated badly.
EDIT:
why did you even ask this question? you obviously have your mind made up that they are awful people. even though you are incorrect
