I've been running an information-based Web business monetized primarily by advertising since 1999.
I suggest you check out WebmasterWorld http://www.webmasterworld.com and other similar forums - they have different sections there frequented by serious webmasters. You can learn a lot from them. In WW, you're not even allowed to put a sig file to advertise your business, as their focus is learning from each other.
Also try Meetup.com http://www.meetup.com - I belong to several groups and we meet face to face once a month to discuss various aspects of running the business.
