ok, well i got it from a book and i pretty much summarized it and put it in my own words. it was given to my AVID class a long time ago and it had everyone in the class guessing the answer for the whole period and we didnt figure it out.

IM me for the answer if u want.....

you're on a journey, looking for a treasure that you have been searching for all your life. finally, you come to a fork in the road. one path leads to evil and tourture, the other leads to the treasure you have been searching for all your life, and wealth and happiness forever. but you dont know which path is which. there is a set of twins guarding the paths. one twin always tells lies, and the other always tells the truth, but u dont know which one is which. each twin is guarding one path, and again you dont know which twin is guarding which path(dont automatically assume the liar is guarding the bad path).

I would ask the twin who is telling the truth, "Who's lying?"

Because, the twin that is telling the truth could point to the twin that is lying and vice versa. Then, I would be able to figure it out.

actually, how many questions am i entitled to ask?

if no limit, i'd ask the first one, would you lie to me? if i assume he's the liar, then the other one is actually telling the truth, right? then i'd ask the righteous one, the same question, would you lie to me? if he is telling the truth he'd say no, right? if he's the liar, of course he'd say no too... but if i assume he's a liar then it contradicts the other one, then by george, i'd know right there and then...

watch "the princess bride" (a movie with david bowie) and you'd find this situation.... perhaps it'd help you to analise...
