The speed that is advertised is the speed you compare with your software's speed requirements. Remember it is best to have more speed on your computer than the software requires for optimum performance. The minimum means it will operate, but not at its best.

On HP's site they talk about the dual processor. Under Specs, then under Processor, there is a link for More Information. In there, it says the dual processor assists 'certain' software to run more efficient. They suggest your check with your software vendor for more information.

Research the software makers to see if they take advantage of the dual processor environment. Do you plan to load this puppy down with processor hungry applications like databases and video editors? If you are using just Word and Excel, you will probably do fine with this computer. If you plan to do some heavy stuff, check with the software providers about the dual processor stuff before you buy.

Well this processor has two cores, so it its like having two processors each running at 1.83 Ghz, but you can just add the two speeds, as this kind of processors use a different technology than Pentiums, even a single core 1.83 centrino would be faster than a 3ghz pentium. These have lower clock speeds (Ghz) because they are more efficient.
