I went to so many bad metal concerts (Krokus, Dio, Twisted Sister, Rainbow, etc.) when I was in high school in the early 80s, I can't really remember the first one. My first BIG concert, like that we had to get in a car and go to an arena where they played pro sports, was Van Halen, 1984 tour when David Lee Roth was still with them.

The Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco to see the Jefferson Airplane and The Quicksilver Messenger Service. This is at the beginning of the Summer of Love and the Haight Ashbury. It was so filled with Pot Smoke that you could barely see down to the Dance Floor. The posters were free, and there was a washtub of apples and oranges. People were wearing tie-dye T-shirts, and men had long hair in pony tails. It doesn't seem so long ago, does it?

first stadium concert: classic rock with honeymoon suite and trooper and some other bands I can't remember when I was 10.
first gig; soul asylum at the local university, without parental supervision when I was 13.

First 'big' concert I ever attended was Styx, on their 'Paradise Theater' tour. I was 16. It was a night of many firsts, actually.

the first "real" concert i saw was the grateful dead at hofheinz pavilion in houston, 2 nights in a row right before thanksgiving 1972. it was about 3 weeks before my 15th birthday, and they played sugaree both nights.
