Do you think is appropriate to let a young girl watch MTV shows without supervision? Children this age sometimes feel the curiosity to watch those kind of channels which I consider for 18 and older but unfortunately MTV is targeted at the teenagers.

I have seen very obscene things that I wouldn't let a child of such a young age watch.

NO

I didn't let my 13 year old watch it 13 years ago. (She's 26 now) I know she was able to do it at unsupervised homes, but at least she grew up knowing there was a reason I didn't want her to watch it and she thanks me now for the morals I taught her. MTV is exploitive of women and of youth and general. Maybe it doesn't matter in a philosophical sense but we need to live in a civilized society and that will not work if "anything goes" There must be rules, we need to have a sense of right and wrong.

A 13 year old is no longer a child. And you must accept that fact regardless of how much she is still your "little baby". In 3 more years, she will be allowed to drive a car. Think about it! I don't think MTV is nearly as bad as our public school systems. And I am not talking about the education by the teachers, but students. The world is moving fast and so are the people in it.

No. All of the shows now are about hooking up or acting out in girls-gone-wild fashion (ie. MTV Spring Break). Although I don't know how you'd avoid it.

Aside from the fact that most standard programming is pretty sexual these days, any adult that was assigned to watch it with her would surely wither and die after maybe 15 minutes of their programming.

I honestly wouldn't let my girls watch MTV because is not a music video channel anymore, it's a reality series joke channel...! In our cable options we have something that's called Parental Control password protected blocking so if you considered that MTV is inappropriate you may locked it without problems.

I wouldn't let her watch unsupervised. I don't let my kids. If they are in the room with me and i turn to that channel I am making sure there is an appropriate video on. Family channel is great because in between shows they will show a music video that is directed towards tweens. Hilary duff, Cheetah girls and more.

NO - I have blocked all music videos from my tween kids. The sexual stereotypes and anger are inappropriate for all humans - especially girls who could be influenced to emulate this behavior.

I would like my children, who have no interest in this so far, to remain blissfully oblivious for a little while longer.

i dont see whats wrong with mtv, its not that bad of a channel, but there are shows to keep your eyes out for. Just warn your child of whats wrong with it and she'll be fine.
