A Canticle for Leibowitz is a post-apocalyptic science fiction novel by Walter M. Miller, Jr., first published in 1959. The first section of the book is based on an earlier short story from 1955. It won the 1961 Hugo Award for best novel.
It is set in an abbey in the Southwestern United States after a devastating nuclear war, and takes place at intervals of hundreds of years apart as civilization rebuilds itself. The plot combines elements of dark comedy with more serious examinations of the issues surrounding faith, knowledge, and power. The book was inspired by the author's witnessing of the destruction of the monastery at Monte Cassino during World I
In the book.... a character named Lazarus acts like a commentator ....the premise is that if Christ rose Lazarus from the dead, overcoming death....then it would take an act of Christ for Lazarus to ever die...

There is NO man that cannot die:
2 Chronicles 25:4b (New King James Version)
The fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall the children be put to death for their fathers; but a person shall die for his own sin.
Jeremiah 31:30a (King James Version)
But every one shall die for his own iniquity:
Even JESUS died for you!
Isaiah 53:7-8 (The Message)
He was beaten, he was tortured,
but he didn't say a word.
Like a lamb taken to be slaughtered
and like a sheep being sheared,
he took it all in silence.
Justice miscarried, and he was led off—
and did anyone really know what was happening?
He died without a thought for his own welfare,
beaten bloody for the sins of my people.
They buried him with the wicked,
threw him in a grave with a rich man,
Even though he'd never hurt a soul
or said one word that wasn't true.
1 Corinthians 15:3 King James Version (KJV)
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
John 3:16 King James Version (KJV)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
