What I usually do, is line my eyes about half a centimetre outwards from the eyelash line, and also on the edge of the eyelid. (Catwalk Black Eyeliner: $4.95 from the chemist)
Then, I do a very thin line in liquid eyeliner (Maybelene Liquid Eyeliner: $14 from Woolworths, and lasts /forever/) around the edge of the eye, so that the darkest part is done in liquid and hopefully fades out with the pencil.
I have rather large, caucasian, blue eyes, so I don't know how this looks on other people, but the effect seems to be satisfactory.
Usually brand doesn't matter, but never, EVER buy eyeliner from the dollar store. It is always hard, doesn't smudge, and almost always irritates your eye. You want to buy it from at least the supermarket. The average price would be $5 for pencil, and $15 for liquid.
I hope this helped.

Cover Girl Perfect Point Plus. Awesome eyeliner! It's got the benefits of a pencil (but no sharpening! yay!) but it goes on as easy as a liquid!

I like the roll up kind the best. Try the body shop. I love their products. Here is a tip though, if you go with the regular pencil and it won't glide on, pass it through a flame. Just don't hold it there cuz it melts and gets hot.

the best eyeliner i have ever used came, surprisingly, from wal-mart (i'm not exactly an avid shopper there) it's called PenSilks by MaxFactor and it twists out of the tube on one end so you never need to sharpen it and on the other end there is a smudger -- it also goes on really smoothly and comes in about 7 different colors

i perfer the pencil since its easier to put on than the liquid. i sometimes use the ones that come with the cosmetique mail-order supply also max factor, wet n wild, etc...
i like to put it on heavily along with everything else i have just to look trashy for my woman or for halloween or any other time i want when im not busy.
i have pix in my phone if any want to see.
and i dont give a rats *** who likes it or not
also im a guy who crossdresses when he gets the chance

It depends on your eyes, but M.A.C.'s Fluidline will do great on any. If you have wide set eyes use thick to thin eyeliner. and if you have close set eyes use thin to thick, starting in the center.
