Nope, not any more. It really is a company by company thing these days. Hiring usually coincides with how they're doing financially---when they discover they're missing their targets, they cut back on or freeze hiring and sometimes reduce staff. When they're hitting their numbers, the go on hiring sprees. The one time of the year most companies usually DO hire is in the February-April timeframe, when (if they budget on a calendar year basis) they've just gotten their final approvals for the year's budget and set out to ensure they have enough staff on hand to make it.

Like all things, and as I said at the start, it really does vary. For example, retailers typically hire beginning in late October for their holiday season, and then don't hire from January until very late spring. So, its a company by company deal, mostly...

Most companies hire more people around early August--when the collegians quit their summer jobs to go back to school--and late May/early June--just before the collegians get out of school and snap up all the available jobs.

It can depend on what field you're in. I'm in the higher education field and though we hire year-round for most areas, some hire more during certain months (i.e. winter/spring so people will start in summer).
