You may be wondering why the heck I ask this, so I'll explain. My friend's having a pool party, and my period should start around that time. But sometimes it's late. I reeeeallly want to go to the party but don't want to embarress myself. So can you use a tampon before your period? If not any suggestions?

You have a higher risk of getting TSS if using one in between periods. Plus it'll hurt pulling it back out because the tampon won't be saturated with anything.
My only suggestion that I can think of is to take a small bag with you filled with a few tampons and an extra swimsuit just in case. And while you're at the party, go to the bathroom every hour or so. And while you're out of the pool, for your own peace of mind you could wear a cover-up... That's all I can think of for now, but I hope that helps. =)

One time won't hurt, but be sure you "install" it last thing, then "uninstall" it as quickly as you can. I wouldn't make a habit of it. Wearing tampons on a daily basis when you are not having your period could lead to a condition called Toxic Shock Syndrome. (Women lost Rely Tampons back in the 80s because women wore them all the time and developed TSS.) But a single use won't cause you any problems other than possibly some dry irritation.

It's not recommended because tampons can (on rare occasions) lead to toxic shock syndrome. However, I would in this situation too. As long as you don't keep it in for more than 8 hours, you should be fine. Also, use the lowest absorbancy tampon you can, as this also helps decrease the risk of TSS (which is a very rare disease)

it's not really very good to wear a tampon when you don't have a period. if you read the piece of paper in the tampon you'll see they advise not to use a tampon when you don't have your period. But I'm sure if you use it correctly, it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Yep, I use a tampon all month long. It's great for after sex "discharge". Use caution when removing, though, because if you don't end up starting, the dry tampon can be a little painful to remove.

Trust me you dont want to wear one when your not on your period. Cause it hurts you. I would just say that you should take some tampons with you. Just in case you start when your there......

You could but dont leave it in too long and make sure you have some ky for when you remove it. Hurts a lot to pull out a dry one.

It's fine, just make sure you follow the same time constraints as always. Make sure you remember, because if you don't start, and you don't have anything going on to remind you to change it, you could be in for trouble.

I can't see what harm it would do to do so...but dont forget it's there and never wear one past the recommended time as you can get that toxic shock thing.

yes, just use one of the slender types and remove it right after you're finished in the pool.
