my roommate is arguing that segways can climb curbs and stairs...this is physically impossible, correct?

No Sir,
And even on inclines they tend to bog down.
Not good in San Francisco.
The only way they can climb stairs is on you back, and they ain't light the i2 is 105 lbs and the X2 (all terrain) 120 Max speed 12-15 mph ZoomZoom

I learned how to ride them in Bangkok and rode for an hour. I don't think they can climb steps. A new model just came out that is suppose to be able to go sideways. They are great fun and easy to learn to ride. The negative is they cost 3-4 thousand dollars. Many big cities have places where you can try them out.

I recently got a pit bull puppy that is only 9 weeks old. And when i was teachin her to go up and down the steps, i started off by putting her at the top of the stairs and i walk down them acting like i wasnt watching her. She does not like to get left so she started going down and i just watched her to make sure she wasnt gonna fall. Then when it was time to go up the stairs i put her in the middle and i went to the top and she followed behind me.Afterwards i gave her a treat..if you put your dog in the middle it eithers has to go up or down and if you go to the top of the stairs and have a treat maybe your dog will come up..and soon she will know its a good thing to go up the stairs.One thing i was told is to never treat your dog like a baby always treat it like a dog, because when it gets older it could turn on you. By you picking up the dog when it cries its going to think everytime its time to go up the stairs its going to cry and your going to pick it up. So i think you shouldnt do that.

They cannot.
There are new electric wheelchairs that have this capability but they are extremely expensive and cost more than most cars.
