Queen.

Their talent is amazing, their melodies haunting, and they have such a wide repertoire of songs...

Anthems: Bohemian Rhapsody, We are the Champions, Under Pressure..
Sad Songs: Who wants to live for ever, Love of My Life, The Show Must Go On
Love Songs: Play the Game, It's a hard Life,
Hard Hitting Songs: Dragon Attack, Another One Bites the Dust
Uplifting Songs: Don't Stop Me Now, I Want to Break Free
Quirky Songs: Fat Bottom Girls, I'm in Love with my Car, Bicycle Race...
....

There's a Queen song for every mood, and Freddy Mercury's voice was magic.

I once even had an argument with my pompous boss about the relative importance of what we do. And I told him, when a couple of years after he dies, nobody in the company will think about him, let alone talk about him; but people still think about and talk about Freddy Mercury.

Needless he wasn't very pleased, especially that he has something against the lifestyle Freddy Mercury chose. But to me the impact Queen had, and still has on people today makes them the BEST rock band in history.

Well, "best" is subjective. If you like southern rock, you could argue the Allman Brothers or Lynyrd Skynyrd. If you like bluesier rock, you could go with Led Zeppelin or Aerosmith.

However, there is no doubt in my mind that the most IMPORTANT band in history is the Beatles. They did so much in eight short years to influence pretty much everyone after them. They influenced music, fashion, politics, art, and so much more.

Absolutely Queen. There are a lot that maybe were more popular - like the Rolling Stones or the Beatles or the Who - but if you listen to Queen's actual musical TALENT, they are mighty awesome. Bohemian Raphsody comes to mind right off the bat.

KISS without a doubt! They set the beat & theatrics for others.

My second choice would be Aerosmith...they have outlasted all bands and have been popular with every generation since they have formed.
