Hey all, I am male, 18 years old and I study acting here in Los Angeles since I was 15. It's my dream to become an actor (screen). I am quite good looking, my height is 5'4" 1/2 (without any shoes and about 5'7 at the very most WITH shoes...), would you say I am short? Do I still have the potentiality to grow taller after 18, even few more inches? Do you think my height will influence the opportunities of being able to get acting jobs here in Hollywood? Serious roles, not a Gary Coleman or a Danny DaVito (with no offense to them...lol)
I've studied many years to come to this point and now at the thought that height could influence my future depresses me greatly. What do you people think? Thank you for taking time to read!

Many --if not most---actors in movies (and actresses) are short..I dont know whether it's because they film better or what...look to mickey roonie..paul newman..(dare i say) mel gibson, elizabeth taylor........it's a long list.

My boyfriend grew two inches taller the year he turned 19, so it does happen sometimes. Height doesn't seem to have been an issue for any of these men:
Tom Cruise (5' 7"), Danny DeVito (5' 0"), Michael J. Fox (5' 4"),
Dustin Hoffman (5' 6"), Dudley Moore (5' 2), Al Pacino (5' 5), or
Elijah Wood (5'6").
Just go for it :) If they really like you for your abilities, they will put you up on a box or something to get the shot if they have to, and cast short co-stars.

Tom Cruise(bad example, sry!),Sylvester Stallone and Jean Claude Van Damme are all under 5'10".They have ways of monkeying with an actors height.Look at the Lord of the Rings trilogy.John Rhys Davies is a BIG guy, and they had him in the role of Gimli, the dwarf! And technically, you don't actually stop growning until around 20 years of age, though most people gain the majority of their height in their teen years.

Yeah you could grow more. I think guys stop growing around 21 anyways. I'm sure you have other qualities that can get you through the door though. Focus on those and just try to do the best you can and don't give up. There will probably be a lot of no's before you get your first yes. Good Luck!

There is a chance you havent finished growing, but even if you have, fear not! seth green is 5'4'' and has a respectable career. Sean Astin and Dominic Monaghan, both of whom have had successful, serious careers, are about 5'6''. And with Hollywood, there are so many tricks with camera angles, etc. that no one would even notice (if you wanted to appear taller that is.)
Height isn't too big a deal, its more ability and good management that'll land you the roles.
