I agree. God's name should never be used in vain.

disgraceful, do you even know what you are talking about?
I understand you have your own personal beliefs. But the people that don't take religion that seriously create a connection between religion and something they love. There are things that players do on the field (Ronaldinho, Pele, Maradona etc.) that are god-like, you don't expect it and you can't help but admire and worship something that is so rare. For players to be talented like that feels like they are not from this world. So I use phrases like "Pele is a god." I'm not saying he is actually God, I'm saying he's god-like, like he was sent down from somwhere to entertain and amaze, to change the football world.
Don't take it too seriously.

C'mon.
First of all Zizou isnt a disgraceful soccer player. He is a PRIDE to the world of football.
by using GOD to describe Zizou,we dont mean it literally. We r just trying to say that we love and respect him a lot.We say that he is the God of Football.By this we mean that he is an extraordinary football player who is soo unique that no one ever be like him.

I made a comment with a God reference earlier. i didn't feel right having it on so I deleted it. I think though that every one of us has used his name in vain. Its very prevalent unfortunately.

plus in some country in asia (thailand i think) they worship david beckham like a God. they made a statue out of him and pray to him. weird? i dont know.

It makes sense. Only a "Freak" aka Bozo I mean "Tozo" would call a disgraceful player a "God." He/She aka Tozo(urs) is a Freak. A real time Freak!

Well, if one worships a footballer, I guess they have a right to call that person a "god". There's nothing wrong with using the word in a pagan way.

it wouldn't be using God's name w(with a capital g) in vain if you call someone A god (with a lowecase g). but that is a good observation, and yes, it is wrong to use his name in vein. but in this particular case, it's not necessarily a sin.
