I'm looking at either a Toyota MR2 http://encyclopedia.quickseek.com/images/93teal.jpg or a MG TF http://www.xpower-mg.com/images/MG%20TF%20Front.jpg
What do you prefer ?

I'd prefer the MG TF, but with a good warranty!
Toyotas are generally much more reliable, but the one in your picture is a previous generation model, so will be quite a few years old. The TF was only introduced in 2002.

Beware that the first MG TFs had a very stiff ride - perfect for track days, but less than ideal for commuting. Try to go for a later version (post 2003) if possible.

I'd even go for the TF over a later MR2 (the convertible version see http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/12h/www.edmunds.com/media/seo/500/2005.toyota.mr2.spyder.jpg ) as this version of the MR2 is totally impractical, Toyota having decided that a space for luggage was unnecessary. I could take my girlfriend away for the weekend in one, or her toothbrush, but not both.

For reliability the Toyota is better, but the later MR2 is pig ugly.
The MG TF is the girlie choice!
I prefer a BMW Z3 which are very affordable for the earlier models.

The MG TF is a perfect example of a cool older car, and it's the one I'd choose. But realize with an older auto comes frequent and expensive maintenance. If that doesn't bother you, go MG!

A friend loves her MG TF. However, you can't get a new one at the moment and spares are not being made, as MG rover collapsed in 2005.

Definitely the MR2 Toyotas are bullet proof and last forever, the MG will break often.....

Buy an MG.....if you want your head gasket to go every few thousand miles. This has been a common fault with ALL Rovers and MG's for years but has only ever been corrected in the more expensive Range Rovers etc.

Be careful of the MG. They have a poor reputation for reliability.
