I would have laughed who goes door to door with trash bags

He may have been trying to gain entrance to your house. That is very weird. Who goes door to door with garbage bags? I would say I am not interested and not answer the door.

If they were free, I'd take them. I'm outta garbage bags.
Call corporate headquarters of Glad. They'll be happy to know you're on the lookout for impersonators of their bags. Then they might give you a year's supply for your help.
