From what I read from what your saying no there is nothing you can do to make him think your a good kid. Even if you stop listening to rock music and start listening to something he likes it will go from rock music to your shirt or pants are too tight and then your hair is to short then you wear to much make up. If your father is supposed to be christian next time he says something like that, I believe theres a saying in the bible something like Love your neighbors and I know for a fact it says somewhere don't rememebr where don't lead a brother a stray something to that tune tell him that and say that if that band is truely christian they are only trying to do good and tell him that by him shuning both them and you for the way you show your savior praise then he is only being a bad christian and in the end will be looked down about for leading fellow believers away from him just because the way they show affection is different. Honestly Myself I don't believe in that christian bull crap any more any way I hope that helps. Here something you can also throw at him next time he says how bad rock music is you can ask him if he'd rather have you listen to country which I'm gunna assume he probably listens to if not rock I know he isn't listening to rap. But it has been stastically proven that people that listen to country are more likely to commit suicide than any other kind of music. As for it leading to drugs if it did I would have started when I was 15 when I had not only a lot of friend that did drugs but I was also friends with some dealers music doesn't get you into drugs you get you into drugs. As for tattoos I'm planning to get a tattoo but it has nothing to do with my music I'm getting it because of me and my journy over the past couple of years I have changed into a completely different person I've lost weight became better looking started my own small business and I've been following my dreams to become and actor so for my rise from the ashes I'm getting a pheonix tattoo has nothing to do with music.

Well first of all, piercings and tattoos are just as likely to lead to drugs as rock music. It is not an accurate assumption to think that rock or piercings or tattoos are the root of all evil.

That being said, how old are you? I am guessing that you are around 14 or 15 and that your father is trying to be as loving as possible, he just wants to protect you. You are very special to him. I think the best way to show your father that you are walking the straight and narrow is to make sure you keep on that same path. If you mess up, your father will probably blame the music, your friends or the TV you watch. Gain your father's trust by showing him with your actions, grades, and goals that you want to make him proud. Eventually he will see that you are going to be a good kid, regardless of your taste in music.

No, not at all! I love rock, I live as a rocker but I never taste drugs (even cigarettes).
I have an PhD. I'm christian too (I'm also an hagiographer)
But all day long I hear rock music (heavy metal, Gothic, dark rock).
I understand your father, he loves you and he is afraid. World is hard. Rock looks hard too. But all these are for advertisement. Stay calm, be patient, respect your self and your parents. They are precious for you. They will understand that you are a good kid (they know that). You will grow and you will be able to choose what really want. Take care. A native rocker. Ti

Well sorry for you that your Dad is stuck in the old times and has been brainwashed somewhere in time. What does he listen too? I would try and find out about every singer he listens to and show him that there are "BAD" influences in all types of music. Jimmy Swagert for example, a die hard TV evangelist , who use to put out music years ago...look him up and see how bad that dude ended up. I could go on and on. Just try and keep you head up, work hard at school, do your own thing....hopefully like you have been.... and hopefully your Dad will get the point someday. Good luck to you. PEACE.

Good answers I've been reading man...just don't let your guard down like I have and you should be ok. Don't lean on your own ideas and thoughts when it comes to doing things like drugs and drinking partys! I can testify that I allowed these bad influences bring on a lot of heartache for everyone around me, but these were choices I made and regret terribly! But to answer your question No I don't believe that rock music will lead to excessiveness in life, but only if you allow the two to play a major role in your choice and decision making. Hey, lots of country and western musicians were hard core drug and alcohol abusers, but they weren't listening or being "influenced" by rock-n-roll! Rock on dude...!

that is a very interesting question u have there. I listen to rock all the time. I listen to uderoath too and other rock bands christian or nonchristian. the drug question? I can answer that. rock doesn't ever make me smoke or drink or even have a tatoo and I listen to rock for quite some time now. your parents? well I don't know them...maybe they're just trying to protect you, maybe they don't trust you...I don't know how you can convince them, I know I had some trouble convincing my folks that rock is not a bad thing...eventually I succeded. don't give up. they'll see you are a good kid after all :)

Yea get your dad drunk and give him some drugs and take him to a tattoo parlor. I listen to rock all my life and played it also and I don`t have a tattoo and I don`t drink or do drugs. Parents are going to think what they want to and your waisting your time trying to prove to him that it`s any different. Besides that what rock is about. REBELLION!!!!! Just listen to what you want and prove to him that he`s wrong. He doesn`t realize that some people don`t need all that crap to get by in life. 9 times out of 10 if kids do drugs or drink it`s because they can`t take there parents because there so closed minded about today`s music , clothes etc that they don`t realize there the ones that push the kids into the drugs and drinking. He needs to wake up and give it a chance!!!

If your dad likes country and western, ask him if that leads to drinking, cheating on your spouse and being proud of both. No.

Does going to church make you a Christian? No.

Does not going to church make you an atheist? No.

Does getting drunk one time make you an alchoholic or what is commonly referred to as a drunk? No.

Does having a tatoo make you "loose" or slovenly? No. (It is a matter of taste)

Does listening to rap make you a "gangsta"? No.

Sad part is, my grandparents disliked my parents' music and my parents disliked mine and I have a REAL hard time with the music that kids listen to today - it drives me crazy for the most part. I guess that is not so much sad is really pretty funny in some ways when you really think about it.

no --stop trying to beg for your fathers trust --because if your a teenager--this will not happen until well into your 20's.
understand you are a good person and have stronger morals than your father obviously deserves to know. Dont listen to his ignorance because that may never go away. and when you bring guys home i can almost bet that he wont like any of them especially if they have tattoos and happen to drive a motorcycle/van even though they are going to church twice a week .
music doesnt lead to drugs, music leads to dancing and love and good energy and self worth and self acceptance.
concepts that are probably hard for your father to grasp.
good luck
