Greetings. I ran my 93 Honda Civic DX out of gas, luckily in my driveway. I'm not very mechanicly enclined, I've consulted my Honda manuel. I've consulted my Haynes book, neither of which really give any information on what I need to do aside from refueling the vehicle. After consulting the manuels, I have learned that the fuel pump is in the tank. That a vaccuous sound when taking the gas cap off is perfectly normal (because that is how the pump works) so I added 1 gallon to the tank, but I have a feeling adding more gas cant be that simple. Or is it? And if so, how much gas is necessary to start?

I'm really lost.
Please help! :(

Thanks In Advance

add some more gas you may be lucky if not you will beed to bleed the system to get the air out you do this under the hood on the fuel rail or the fuel line is a valve looks like air valve on a tire crank the car over a couple of times then use something small and press in on the valve keep doing this until you have a good flow of gas and car will run

Turn the key on to the run position (not start). Wait 10 seconds.
Turn the key off. Wait 10 seconds

Repeat three times.

This will prime your fuel system.

After that, turn the key and start the car!!

(Make sure that the battery is fully charged, Honda's of that era need a fully charged battery to make the fuel pump work correctly!)

Definitely not normal. From your description I assume it has an automatic transmission, otherwise the revving would be without acceleration (clutch slipping). My first thought is that the ignition timing is retarded at low rpm, and the first thing to check on that is that the timing belt is okay. By now it should be on the third timing belt (second replacement after the original) based on age. If the belt is overdue, get that done. The timing may be corrected - if that is indeed the problem - during the belt replacement. BTW - also replace the water pump when replacing the timing belt on Honda engines.

it will usually take at the least amount ,,1 gallon to get it going again,,and this wont go far,,because the slightest tilt of the car may make it not pick the gas up good,,you need at least 2-3 gallon to be sure,,but this should be all you need to do to get it going again,,i don't think you have hurt anything,,on it,,usually running one out of gas wont hurt it,,unless it picks up,some of the drugs from the bottom of the tank,,you should be OK this time,,i hope this help,s.

try it i would think a gallon would start it if it doesnt the pump could be burt up from not getting cooled by the fuel from the return line comming back in the tank

you better crack open your wallet and get at least 14 gallons of gas which is about a full tank for your car before you crank your car over.
you will kill your car by depriving it of gas.
the next time you drive your car till it runs out of gas will probably be the end.

Sheez, dude. In the amount of time you used to write your question, you could have started your car and driven it around the block a few times.
