It is illegal to burn a DVD for your friend however if you ever want to burn a copy for yourself here's a site with worthwhile info.

Technically copying your own DVD for yourself is also illegal if it was copy protected because even though the law gives you the right to copy your own material for your own use they kowtowed to the studios and passed a law to make it illegal to break the copy protection - so it is legal to copy; but you can't copy unless you break the copy protection which is illegal. Almost sounds like it should be illegal to put copy protection on the DVDs in the first place since it is legal to copy them.

You need a DVD Burner, A DVD Burning Program, and a Blank DVD Disc, and some basic burning knowledge... Good Luck

DVDs are copyright on it so you can't just burn it on your computer. I think that there may be a program that can break the copyright on a DVD....I'm not positive because I have never personally did it....but someone told me this!

Um, if it isn't copy protected, take the DVD copy everything to your hard drive, and burn it to the disc. If it is copy protected, it's possible to copy it - you'll have to find a program that can decode the copy protection. The most popular one is Decss. It might be illegal however.
