When you go into the labour and are about to be admitted to the hospital, are there any hygene procedures prior to it? Like, you have to be shaven down there, and empty your bowl system, etc.? I've heard something about it and got confused... experienced ladies, do share ur experience! Thanks.

The shaving and enima things depend on your doctor's personal opinion...they also won't let you eat or drink during labor so they don't have to give you an enima. If your bowels are trying to work, it could make labor harder and longer since your body is trying to concentrate on two different things at a time. As far as shaving "down there", there is no need to unless your doctor says to. They used to do it because they thought it was more sanitary for the baby...turns out, it's the opposite. Even a tiny, tiny cut from a razor can harbor bacteria and pass it on to the baby during delivery...plus, it's a pain in the butt when the hair grows back...my mom told me it itched. Just take a shower before going to the hospital (unless you are already in labor, I was being induced, so I knew when I would go into labor and took a shower before we left) because it's going to be a day or so before you get another one. Don't forget to get up and walk around as soon as you are able (if you have your baby at night, you can get up the next morning) and if you drop something on the floor, call your nurse to come and get it (I made the mistake of trying to get it myself, and passed a huge clot...scared me to death!). Sleep on your tummy, and don't do sit-ups until your doctor okays it. Happy delivery!

Don't listen to grandma. :)
I believe they used to do those sort of procedures. Now they don't (at least they didn't when I had my child in jan).
No shaving, unless you've done it on your own (fat chance in even reaching down there). No bowel preps. Your body may prep itself (a lot of women have several loose bowel movements prior to going into labor).
Shaving may differ if you're have a c-section, but I am not sure how that works.

depending on your doc he may shave you.. (however they rarely do that these days, it was more common a few years ago)... you can request to have an ennema.. however if you have a good BM the day you are going to deliver you will be fine... there are chances (since you use the same muscles to push) that you may have a BM while pushing out your baby.. this is quite normal and the nurses simply clean up and go about with delivery.. if you feel unsure about wanting this to happen you can always request the ennema... best of luck to you..

Be quiet and in good behavior, all pregnant women have this boring sensation too.To clean, yes,but to shave or to empty the bowel, not necessary. No need to urge your intestine to overwork before the labor time happen. The preparation of the delivery kit is essential, especially in the delivery room.

I would suggest you do both (if there is no extreme rush, of cource), and throw in a pedicure sometime close to your due date. The thing is, you are still ou, and still a women, regardless of what you are going through at that given moment, and doing this may and will make you fill better. Good luck and have a healthy baby!

umm, that depend on your hospital and your expressed wishes. contrary to popular belief, you do NOT have to be shave down there, and you do NOT have to have an enema. eewww!!

i refused to have the shaving done, as it sooo totally added to the discomfort after the baby (imagine the irritation from the pads you have to use after birth!!!) the first time around. the second time i was more insistant and much more comfortable!

you just need to simply and firmly make your choices known. the staff has to conform to your wishes (provided it isn't a safety issue, which this is not!), not the other way around!!

best wishes!

They don't do that anymore. The only time any shaving goes on is if you have a c-section. They also do not do enemas or anything like that anymore. If you are worried, speak with your OB and good luck!

The only time they have to shave you "down there" is if you have to have a c-section. I had a c-section for both of my children and they shave your stomach and down there. If you are having natural birth they do not shave anything. Good Luck!!

They don't do that anymore. In fact labor is likely to encourage your bowels to empty themselves. And well there is no indication that your hair will cause any health risks to the baby so they don't shave you anymore either.

used to be.....but not anymore. Ask your OB/GYN office for their protocol! Just pray it's a quick and safe delivery! Good Luck!
