I would much rather be a happy poor person, than a miserable rich person! Why? As long as I have enough to eat, clothes on my back and a roof over my head, then my life is probably very uncomplicated, which is something that can't be said about being rich (in my opinion), therefore, making me quite content and hopefully happy. :) I'm also assuming that I would have enough money to pay what bills I have. ;)
I think that all of this, would also depend on how long I've been poor or rich. If I have been poor all my life, then this is something that I would be very used to, and hopefully, would make me realize that my happiness isn't dependent on how much money I have. Whereas, if I've been rich all my life, then I would probably associate my happiness more with what things I have, and what that money can buy me.
Figuratively speaking, I honestly believe that a poor man can be very rich, and a rich man can be very poor. This may be the exception, but I believe it nontheless. I'm certainly not saying that all poor people are happy, and all rich people are miserable; I know that isn't the case. I just think that money can truly be the root of much unhappiness. Of course, not having enough money, not having enough food to eat, and/or not being able to pay your bills, can lead to unbelievable stress.
The older I get, the more I realize that it's not all about wanting more material "stuff" all the time, even though I'll be the first to admit, that I like "stuff", lol. I'm just finding over time, that I need less and less "stuff" to make me happy, and I'm realizing that my happiness (wealth), comes more from within myself and from those who truly love me, than it does from what money can buy me. I also get much happiness from simple things that cost very little, if anything at all, ie: the wind blowing in my hair, birds singing, trees, parks, books, music, and kind words from loved ones and strangers.
I apologize for giving much too long of an answer, and I hope that I haven't rambled on and on, and confused you. Thank you for such a thought-provoking question!! :)
"I've never been poor, only broke. Being poor is a frame of mind. Being broke is only a temporary situation." ~Mike Todd
"Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one." ~Benjamin Franklin

I would say a happy poor person because they have experienced bad times and good times, where money cannot but happiness so I would think that most people that are wealthy are not happy at all. So a poor person would be wealthier in my eyes.

The rich miserable person is wealthier simply because he can employ people and give to charity. The poor happy person can't do crap for nobody.

Money can't buy love...so I guess I would have to say a poor person who is happy--but the way today's world works--no one is ever fully happy because we all want what we cant have regardless if we are rich or poor.

I say a miserable rich person. How happy can you be with no money.
the miserable rich has the means to pay for psychiatric help, which will eventually alleviate the cause for his misery. He can then spend and enjoy his money and be truly happy.
Whoever said money can't buy you happiness, didn't know where to shop

Happy poor person. I know I don't want to be miserable. If you are happy with what you have then you are thankful for what you have. You don't need to be rich to be happy.

A happy poor person, cuz I'm one of those.
I don't have much money, but my house is full of love. My family is sooooooo loving and happy it'd blow your mind. We have enough to eat, clothes to wear, and a decent car to drive, and a house, so we have what we need, but we definetely don't have extravagant things. But we still have our love for each other. Love is something that money can't buy and something no one can ever take away from us.
A home and a car can get repossessed, but love within a family can never be taken away.
I'm poor financially, but rich in love!!! And SOOOO HAPPY!!!!

wealthier? the rich guy.
better off? the poor guy.
but the rich guy ought to figure out what makes him happy. He has the means to do so, so he should take advantage of it. There are plenty of people who can't do so.
