You don't say what size tank?? Buy the KBS Cycle or Auto Fuel Tank Repair Kit depending on your size tank. It's a complete do it yourself kit. Their Gold Standard tank sealer coats the tank and seals small pinholes and weld seams. For larger pinholes, you may need their BackBone mesh. Call them for advice. They'll sell you only what you need.

There is a gas tank repair kit you can buy for under 10 bucks. Polish the area thoroughly with a scotchbrite pad and spray with brakleen. Roll the stuff into a small ball and push it hard to try to get a little into the hole.....be sure that the gas tank is near empty and you park on a slope or put something under the tires to keep fuel away from the hole. Use just enough to get the hole filled and leave just a little around the hole. When it dries the next morning, put some seal all (from wal-mart) around the area. It's in a tube the size of automotive silicone. Good luck.

Normaly, it's a lost cause. You patch(they make an epoxy that is specifically made for gas tanks) one hole and then, soon, another one appears. Unless it's an extremely unusual situation there is going to be rust throughout the tank, and it will drive you crazy trying to keep the leaks patched. If it's a regular car(not a very old one) you should be able to get one at a salvage yard, but you will need to have it vated(dipped in acid to clean it). If it's an old car you might find another tank to fit it. example: my friend has a 1947 chevy convertable he's building and he put a maustang gas tank in it and it fit perfectly. good luck.

The best advise on this is to take the tank to your local radiator shop and have them braze the hole up. Over the counter products that you can buy at the local auto parts store tend to leak after a while. I have been brazing up holes in tanks for several years, it is the most efficient way and safest way to cure the leak

KBS Coating makes a Tank Sealer system that works very well. I have sealed two tank ... a car gas tank and my bike's gas tank. It worked well for each and I have not had any further issues. It was so much cheaper than buying a new tank. http://www.kbs-coatings.com/KBS-Gas-Tank-Sealer-C38.aspx

You don't want to drive around with a gas tank full of rust. replace it now or wish you would have later.

If it's got one pinhole leak, safe bet it's dangerously thin in other spots. Replace it.

No, too dangerous. Gas tanks are not that expensive & are fairly easy to install.
