Mahler's 2nd Symphony. When the soprano soloist sings "O Rosen Roht" (Oh, Red Rose) at the end, I have to choke back the tears. A work about life, death and the chance that we might come back one day. I'm singing it with London Symphony Chorus at the Proms on 6th Sept. Come to see it.......you'll see exactly what I mean!

I'd then say the Adaggietto from Mahler's 5th Symphony written for his beautiful wife, Alma. It was used in the scene where Dirk Bogarde dies on the beach in the film Death in Venice. It has you in floods every time.

Go Listen!

There's so many I could name.

But I'm gonna go with 'Rock and Roll Suicide' by David Bowie.

The melody is sad and soothing at the same time and is so distinctive that you know what it is as soon as you hear it. The lyrics are so poignant, the sort that will be relevant for generations.

Samuel barbers "Adagio for Strings" closely followed by "Paliaco" where the clown has to on stage and and sing even though his heart has just been broken before he came on stage ( he found his wife and best friend together)

I think mine has to be the DJ Sammie remix of Heaven 911. With the little girl speaking to her dad through it, puts a lump in my throat.
