A big factor is the coins mint mark, which identifies the location of the U.S. mint that produced this coin. Look on the reverse below the eagle's tail feathers. If there is no mark, that means It came from the Philadelphia mint. This is the most common.
The rare coins will have a letter "S" for San Francisco, "CC" for Carson City, Nevada, or an "O" for New Orleans.
Check the latest copy of "Official Prices of United States Coins", also known as "the red book" due to it's red cover, for the going price of the coin.
Also, NEVER hold the coin by touching It's surface, always by touching only the edges. Better yet, place in a sealed coin holder specifically made for that type, size of coin.
Good Luck!!!

You aren't giving enough information about the coin. If it is a Morgan 1886-o, it is possibly worth over $400,000. On the other hand, if it is a Morgan-p (in otherwords, unmarked) it could be mint state and only worth $35. On average a coin of this description may be worth $60-$100.
By the way, there are many levels of mint condition.

It now costs more to make a penny that it is worth. Soon - the new pennies - will look like the steel pennies in WW II. I love the huge silver dollar - it used to be the sign of a gambling trip to Reno - a long time ago - before they switched to those gaudy chip things. The delightful Susan B's - about the size of a quarter - how many times did I almost give out two (2) to buy a newspaper? ♥

Vist www.spcoins.com.
There is contact info there. You will need to describe the coin and send them a scanned photo of both sides. They will give you a price, regardless of whether you want to sell it or not. They are always open to answering questions, and if they don't know the answer, they will try to get it for you.
